ENGIN UPDATE: Mask rules explained. Watch State of the College recording.

The College of Engineering’s weekly update aims to provide transparent and frequent information about how the College is operating, caring for its community and planning for the future.

THE LATEST MASK RULES EXPLAINED

About a week after U-M announced that masks are no longer required outdoors (in most cases), the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people can now go without a mask in more places – indoors and outdoors.

The current rule for U-M is that everyone is required to wear a face covering when:

  • inside buildings
  • on U-M transportation
  • participating in organized contact sports
  • when outdoors in gatherings of 100 or more

The U-M Health System released this CDC mask rule explainer

U-M REDUCES TESTING SITES

There are now five testing sites on campus. With the reduced summer student population and increasing number of vaccinated students, faculty and staff the need for testing is lower now than it was during the winter term. The needs for testing capacity will be evaluated as the U-M prepares for the fall semester. Testing remains strongly encouraged for all unvaccinated faculty and staff coming to campus – and required for unvaccinated students.

There are two free 30 minute parking spaces on Bonisteel across from the Pierpont Commons  building for COVID-19 testing participants.

THIS EMAIL IS PAUSING FOR JUNE AND JULY

We will be pausing the weekly Update for June and July, and will relaunch in August with an updated content strategy.

Engin Update was created to provide resources and information about teaching and working at Michigan Engineering during the pandemic. As we look to the fall we see that need decreasing, but plan to make adjustments to meet the need for timely, coordinated and succinct communications.

Please take this short survey. We value your opinion and it will help us determine next steps for Engin Update.
